Bexley's VIP try-dive 2009

Bexley CIP try-dive 2008

Bexley Sub Aqua Club were honoured with a special visit by the Mayor of Bexley, who took the plunge back in February to dive with us in a try-dive session. The offer was taken up when the Mayor of Bexley along with Mayor of London Boris Johnson met Mick Edwards at the official opening of the new Sidcup Leisure centre last October. Never one to miss a trick Mick offered both Mayors' a taste of scuba with the Bexley Mayor, Councillor Nick O'Hare, taking up the offer. The Mayor, guided by Richard Nokes certainly seemed to get stuck in and enjoy the dive, for his "first and probably not last taste of scuba". He was a good sport and was happy to pose for pre-dive photos wearing the official Mayor's chains of office. Who knows, we may even have a future member in the making.

Scapa Flow 31 August - 5 September

It had been several years since the trip to Scapa, so with the lure of the 'Flow' calling, Andy 'Bison' Stearn set things up by chartering the services of Bob Anderson aboard the MV Halton. In the main the awesome wrecks of the German High Seas Fleet wrecks were dived, along with the impressive but very different wrecks of the Tabarka and James Barrie. As the saying goes 'a good time was had by all'.

Diving the blockship 'Tabarka' - Scapa Flow 2008

The 2,624ton steamer Tabarka , was seized in Falmouth in 1940 and was initially sank in the Kirk Sound but refloated and taken to the Burra sound to be resunk in 1944. There she remained to stop German U-boats entering Scapa Flow. She lies upside down in 12m of water to the south of the Inverlane. This video was taken by Ron Shires.
